WELCOME BACK! I hope you all had time to rest and enjoy some weeks off from responsibilities and stress! I'm excited to dive back in to learning piano! We have some really great things planned for this semester. The Rice Brothers will be performing for us, we have our final recital in May, and this is when my Theory Maniacs need to really step it up and get their theory books finished up by April. Please help your pianist get back into routine practicing and to make piano a priority if they lost it over the break. Thanks for all you do!

COMPOSER STUDY AND LISTENING ASSIGNMENT
Meet Johannes Brahms (1833-1897)
Romantic Period
From Germany
Brahms Fun Facts (Broe 2021 p.111):
He is considered on of the three "B's" of classical music, "Bach, Beethoven, Brahms."
Brahms owned a trick rocking chair that when someone sat in it, the chair would tip all the way over backwards. He laughed out loud, especially if a proper lady came to call and the chair tipped over!
He was part of the War of the Romantics in music. Brahms and Clara Schumann were on the side of the more traditional music composers. Liszt and Wagner were considered radicals who advocated for the "new path" of composition.
Even though Brahms started out in a family of modest means, he became so popular that he was wealthy later in life. He gave money away to aspiring musicians and often purchased candy so he could give it away to children when he went on his walks.
Piano Notes:
Tuition is due the first week of every month. Thank you!
Per studio policy, if your student needs to miss a lesson, please try to switch with another student. If no other arrangement can be made, I offer a make-up group lesson at the end of the semester.
Studio classes are mandatory studio events.
